NEW STEERING GEAR LUBRICANT SPECIFICATIONS
John Deere Model "40" Series and "M" Series Tractors

The lubricant specified for steering gears on all "40" Series Tractors and all "M" Series Tractors has been changed from SAE90 to SAE140. It has been found that the use of SAE140 gear oil lessens the possibility of metal-to-metal contact during high gear pressures brought about by certain operating conditions.

This change was effective at the factory in production of "40" Series Tractors, with the following Serial Numbers: 40-73596, 4OS-68086, and 4OU-60989.

The instruction list on the back of the battery cover will not show this change until new decalcomanias become available.
