1953 John Deere 40 Standard

Marvin S. sent along some pictures of his 1953 40S (Serial # 64431, Block # 80681). He writes, "Even though the tractor has very old paint and is in what appears to be original condition I am finding traces of what could be industrial yellow under the paint in some spots. Could this be an industrial or highway unit? If it was a repaint someone did a complete job painting behind the grille, under the hood and every other nook and cranny. Is there any way to determine if this is an industrial unit or not?"

He continues, "I have restored a couple of cars in the past and this will be my first tractor (except for a JD 110 a couple of years ago). I intend to document with digital photos and keep close track of cost much as you have done. If this tractor was originally an industrial then that's how it will be restored."
