CHANGE IN CAP SCREW MATERIAL AND TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
John Deere Model "40" 4- and 5-Roller Crawler Tractors

In order to reduce the possibility of the track-frame-clamp-to-track-frame attaching cap screws working loose and breaking, the material has been changed to a higher stength steel and the torque increased to 200-210 foot-pounds (Figure 57B).

The new cap screws, Part Number 19H1642T, replace the 19H1008K cap screws, and were effective in production on Model "40" Crawler Tractor Serial No. 66375. The new 19H1642T cap screws are now being furnished as repairs for all Model "40" 4- and 5-roller Crawler Tractors in lieu of the 19H1008K cap screws.

The new 19H1642T cap screws may be identified in the field by the six radial dashes located on the cap screw head. The old 19H1008K cap screws had three radial dashes located on the cap screw head.

CAUTION: Make sure that the track frames are properly aligned with the chisel marks on the crossbars before tightening the clamp-to-frame attaching cap screws.
